Fish Chinese Scroll Painting – Silk Wall Art – Black Goldfish Red

A black goldfish red scene unfolds across this fish scroll painting, composed with a scholar's restraint. The work reads as a whole from across the room and rewards a closer look too. It belongs with the best of oriental wall hanging, the sort that settles into a room from day one.

The water plants motif is worked into the composition with classical restraint. The brush-written text is part of the design, not an afterthought. Here the water grass takes its place in the composition's larger rhythm. In the middle distance, the black goldfish anchors the painting's sense of place. The goldfish adds a quiet accent, handled in the old manner of the brush. Here the red goldfish takes its place in the composition's larger rhythm.

As chinese painting for home decor, it asks for nothing more than a good wall and soft light. A piece like this asks little and gives back steadily. A thoughtful present for anyone starting a collection.
